retreads..... hrmmmm
i seem to remember an article in the street machine magazine what.... i think 3 years ago when they tried to do a review on retreads...
they went to heaps of retread manufacturers to ask if they could test a retread on the strip.. and you can guess.... all refused except one who was confident enough and apparently did very well..
so i can pretty much guess that the retread guys dont have enough confidence in their products to even have it tested thoroughly as they KNOW that its going to fail...

I dont think you should reject a tyre on the principal that its a retread. Both the Motorway muds and the mongrals that I have come accross work quiete well and the owners are quite happy with them. The only downside (may also be seen as an upside) is that the side wall being very thick dont bag very well.

But the warining *Not recommended for sustained high speed highway driving* has me worried, might have to buy a second set of rims and run these only when going away for a trip.
I wish their Muddies came in 33"

from reports I have heard they are not proving very good for biger rigs like patrols, but on a zook etc are brillient. I have being running the muddies on the ute for some time. and havnt got around to getting the 33 MTRs i want, and they era lmost bald now and are good.Mowie wrote:I like the look of their Mongrel

have met guys that have done the simpson and the cape on the muddies without puntures. max tyre size is 32"

retreads work fine as long as the company making them xrays every case before capping them.otherwise their quality could be dubious at best.

The problem is that every case needs to be inspected (x-rayed) to check that there are no internal injuries before it has new rubber layed down on it.
did you take it back to the manufacturer ???
I have had several non retread tyres delaminate at the belting when the were quite new (less that 15,000 k's old)

I have 275/70/16 monoform muddies for my off road use & asked question re 265/75/16. Carcasses are always stuffed in that & some of the other more common sizes I was told. I personally would only get the remoulds & never the retreads, reason as others have stated.BowTieGQ wrote:Usual failure of a remould/retread is the carcass. I find them to be pretty good off road, but as others have said, do not bag very much. Also get out of balance very quickly & can be difficult to balance again. In regard to highway travel Mowie, have used them on the 'black stuff' when travelling to the high country (some 200+ ks) & are fine. What some ppl do not realise is that ALL remoulds/retreads are speed rated to a MAXIMUM of 120KPH only so I never go over 105klm.

The only difference I can notice at a glance with those Fedimas is the large lugs arent as big, and dont stick out very far, however they seem to look a lot better than our copies, the mongrels. At 2 hunge though, I doubt they would cop the beatings that Simex can take.
