3K is a good engine conversion itself

Thats a really broad question.
First, you can pick up sierras these days for around $2000 for a late 80's early 90's. Then a bodylift maybe $300. Then you can maybe pick up a used set of 30x9.5x15 mud terrains for around $200 and youve got a reasonably capable 4x4.
The list goes on. Remove the swaybar too, it limits travel and doesnt do squat on road.

For 3k you may pick up a reasonable Zook.... but I doubt you will get an engine conversion in that budget too. Check the Vehicles for sale section. Aza has one there for 3k obo http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modul ... hp?t=68704

just get a stocker with a good body, fit some cheep little muddies and go drive some stuff.
you might be surprised where a stocker can go.
Edit: best mod is a rollbar, then some muddies

somewhere around 1987 suzuki changed to the 1.3 litre, b4 that it was the 1litre. Best mods i rekon would be
2 inch bodylift
2 inch shackle = cheap
2 inch spring = expensive
fit 31inch tyres with minimal chopping
31s = high gearing :bad-words:

Just letting you no the change to 1.3L and 5 speed was around late 84 to early 85 and some LWB known as Marutis were still 1L 4 speeds even in the 90's. Not having a go zookdave just thought it could alter terrys decision.

try to aim for the wide track,1.3,5 spd etc. they are a great fun toy. go a bit of lift and tyres and you should have a great time.
