Haven't heard of anyone doing this before.
Should be sweet once it's done.

P.s how much $$$$ are you looking at for the 12ht?

I would put the auto in it. Would be a whole lot less stuffing around. With and auto you might be able to get as far past your 78 bogged in the snow up Pinnabar as Jason did in his 60

think of the fuel consumtion
i don't know of a 12ht 's consumtion is but i
heard of a guy did the same to a 4.2 pootrol put a stroked 5lt [5.7]
kitted it with gas
and to do a 6 hr trip it cost him 120 in fuel for gas[lpg]
yes the car has been fully tuned and is on 33
just the problem to look at when fitting a v8 or even a hotted up v8

a gen 3 is just the same as the old 350 chev with more wiring so it should go a breeze they are a very torquy motor but get the cam timing changed as they are set to bring it on later in the rev range also they are better that an stroke 5lt in fuel useage as they arnt a worked motor. i would do it if intersted i have a mate with a gen 3 and 6 six speed for sale and is willing to seperate.

I have been attempting this conversion into a Hilux with 80 series Cruiser auto, but will probably put the driveline into a cruiser instead. What I have found out so far;

ls1's are prone to high oil usage, there are backyard fixes it seems, but later ls6 blocks have better designed oil passges. Something to be wary of when buying engine.

Ebay seems to have these cheapish, they go for less than $3500 complete (all accessories)- but I haven't actually seen their selling prices so don't quote me.

They are not suited to gas because of their plastic inlet manifold- holley do a replacement alloy one for $700 or edelbrock do an alloy one that lets you run a carby and with programmable ignition is $1500 (good for running straight gas).

If you plan to run the fuel injection it pays to buy an OZ sold motor(ie from Commodore- NOT imported eg Corvette) otherwise you will need to do emissions test.

Cruiser auto is stronger than 4l60e auto, adaptor from CRS is $360ish. The big chev (4l80e) auto would be good but very$$$.

I don't know if anyone does an adaptor from the six speed manual to transfer but would certainly consider this if possible.

Sounds good. The dunnydoor box has weak case tho, some guys who push them hard behind even v6's break them. I have no personal experience, just what I've heard.
I talked to a few auto shops, they consider the t700/ 4l60e to be adequate in strength, but my guess is they are not talking about hard offroad use.
You will have to put a shift kit in and thermos, modify crossmember and also adaptor to tcase. Add up the cost of that and compare it to alternatives- eg Cruiser manual or auto- might be cheaper this way.
