cracked valve cover on feroza/u.s. rocky

Does anyone know if its possible, and if so how, to weld the valve cover. Back rear corner has broken off. Not just the flat ear piece, but a small part of the dome as well. Leaks oil as you can imagine (1 quart/1000 miles.) Just wondering if anyone else has done this and how...thanks. :twisted:

If you cant find a replacement cover, there is product you can buy for repairing things like this, its called SELLYS knead it. Im sure you can get an equivalent product in the states.

Thats what I used on mine when it cracked, it worked great. But I eventually replaced it.

Clean it up and get it welded- a friend with an Applause had exactly the same thing happen. ;)

thanks, wreckers wanted $65 for a cover...so i thought i would try having it welded...more interested in getting rid of oil leak than it looking pretty...thanks again... :)

Use a Daihatsu Appluase rocker cover - $15(AU) from my local wrecker and is exactly the same ( I am using one right this minute ).
The 1600 Applause HD engine is the same as the Feroza with different accessories.

Take the cover to a shop that can TIG weld it with argon gas.

But it needs to be pointed out that the alloy used on these things are crap, therefore it may not work. :cry:

Its actually a zinc die cast - so welding it is virtually impossible.
Save yourself the frustration because when they start with the TIG its likely it will get worse not better.

As I said earlier, a friend of mine got his Applause engine cover welded (same engine) and it certainly wasn't a botched job. The cover can be welded, I saw it with my own eyes!

it can be welded - secret to stop it from cracking is not doing the nuts up tight. 1/2 turn from finger tight is enough.
