2 week old new leafs sagged? help?
Hey I had tough dog leafs on my 1989 hilux single cab and the drivers side was considerably sagged so i got them reset and they sagged within 6 months. So i bit the bullet and bought new ones 2 weeks ago and the front drivers side is sagged again!! whats the deal? Is something wrong? The shocks are absolutley fu#ked, does that have anything to do with it?

DID YOU FIT AN ADJUSTABLE TORQUE ROD TO THE DIFF. Would check your spring perches. Had the same thing in my lux. except
pasenger side. Could be convex, basically breaking the back of the spring.
Also all the load on a hilux is on the drivers side, fuel, battery, driver transfer case. Mine always had a 1inch lean to the drivers side even with
new springs.

nah not yet, cars sitting outside a mates place atm, i'll do it sarvo when i've recovered from the weekend hahah. Yeh it's really pissing me off, I have IFS rears in the back with 200mm e2e shackles and the leaf packs are still standard they seem to look alright, How fast do IFS rears in an ln106 sag anyway? But just want to fix this damn lean its go in the front. I only weigh frikken 64kgs so it's not like i'm a fat c#nt.

have a look underneath, it will be fairly self evident - it's a lot shorter than the half length of the springs so when the axle moves up or down it generates forces in the front of the spring - it tries to pull the axle up to it's 'neutral' position.Dumbdance how does the torque rod pull the front down?

I wouldn't be such a problem if toyota made the torque rod of the same axis as the spring pins

should bounce back unless they've been like that for a long time. 2 weeks probably isn't long enough to have destroyed the springs.BadLux wrote:so if I fix the problem will the springs still stay sagged or bounce back to its correct position??

Very interesting subject guys.Myn also has 2 inch lift from when it was 12 months old 89 sr5 2.8d dual/cab I just put new OME dakkar springs in the front again 3 weeks ago which were fitted by TJM dont have the time or the tools to do myself and they didnt say anything about the torque bar. I will be ringing them tomorrow to find out why they didnt advise me to put an adjustable bar in if its going to cause the springs to pull down and sagg or stuff them completely. As usual good info recieved on this web site.Regards Steve M
Jack the lux up to check the brake lines, if they are tight twist the bracket on tne chassis so it faces the wheel this will give plenty of lenghtmillers1 wrote:Forgot to ask if thats the case will I also need to extend the brake lines or will the shockies hold it up any way. Cheers Johnz, will do that and see how much more length I get, also rang tjm thismournung and they said to me dont need an adjustable torque bar unless you go 3inch lift or more, also rang arb same reply they both said the reason for the spring sagg would be something to do with top of the diff where the springs sit common prob with leaf front end hiluxs due to age and wear and tear he said only proper way to fix is by grinding and plating some thing like that any way. Sorry for my ignorance but not that mechanically minded when it comes to all that type of stuff. Cheers Steve M

Years before 'adjustable torque rods' were even available people have been putting 2" lifts in their lux's without sagging probs,other than 'overloading' them.You only need one if you're lifting OVER 2",as for your sagging,I'm with 4SUM4.....check if you've got em on the right side or not,I'm not all TECH'D up on this as to why it does it,but I have heard from a number of people with the older models such as yours & older,this IS a prob...but on the PASSENGER side.....

If the spring pad on the axle is convex (curved upward) then it will affect how the spring sits. To correct you would need to cut/grind it off and weld a new one on that is flat, or simillar repair.
