a fridge should be between 1 and 5 deg c and freezer ideally -18 but a portable will struglle to do that, best to get yourself a thermometer and check it out, bearin mine the hotter the outside ambient temp the lower you will have to set the fridge to compensate for the lossed through the insulation
If the above post did not offend you in any way please PM me so I can try harder!!

just remember, with fridges and A/C systems, setting the temp lower does not make it work any better, all it does is keeps the unit running alot longer and in turn using alot more power,

Go to the nearest pet shop and get a digital fish tank thermometer($15) and place the probe end in the middle of your fridge away from side walls. Food safety regs are between 1-5 for fridge and -18 to -23 for freezer. Then set ur temp to the theromoeter!but as tiny said thats in a hole different story in the bush or desert with the ambient temp!I have the 60L engels with transit bag .Dont no if waeco do a transit bag but they help!

I've got the CF-60 with the transit bag, and it helps heaps, Mousie I would go and pick up a bag if you can dude, its worth the extra. Mine took a bit of getting used to with the temps but now I've got it sorted its unreal, was having icey bourbons out of my Waeco after Son of Trials finished today!

I used to be in the seafood business and we ran all our fridges at .5 to 1 degree celcius and freezer at minus 40c.

they might have been set a 4c but, Every Trailer i checked when i was a trainee manager was well above 4 degrees. I made they ,,anager miss budget for 1 week by $100 due to me being :bad-words: off at him so i rejected all the cut salads an strawberries. I was following policy so no one could say anything. Cost woolies about $1500 for that week

Same goes for the display fridges in the dairy dept. Get a temp gun and check the front products as you walk passed. Very disturbing. I only ever grab product from the rear.

Just cause its set at a certaiin temp. Doesnt mean its gunna hold all the XXXX at that temp.

I have had the Waeco CF-80 for about 14 months and I find it best set on 2 lights for fridge only and 5 lights for freezer (whether full freezer or with the divider in place. I think this is even recommended in the manual.
Doesn't matter if it is -10 or 40 deg ambient temp these light counts are what I use.

They are a great fridge.

I have the 110L and know a few with 80's... Not a single one could hold 4˚C on 2 lights above about 25˚C ambient... All using the Waeco dual range thermometers. We all have to run 4 lights to maintain between 3 and 4˚C when ambient is over 28-30˚C. We all have the probe mounted at the bottom of the "fridge" end at the furthest wall from the element. At Wilsons Prom a couple of weeks ago, ambient temp was 37˚C and the kids must have played with the "pretty lights", with 2 lights activated, fridge temp was 8.7˚C. Not knocking you, just my observations with several fridges which all seem to behave very similarly.

Well to be honest with you I don't usually use my temp probe but when I have it held 4 deg or so ok. All I take any notice of these days is whether everything feels cold enough or not. I'll have to start using it again and see how the temp is going.

Although as for knocking the buttons, on the weekend I was wondering why my fridge was running constantly and then noticed it was on 7 lights! Must have bumped it somehow. I can't blame the kids as I don't have any :)

Hurry out and get some kids... You can blame the little bastards for just about anything. You can only blame yourself for warm beer though ;)

We had a Waeco 60 litre .... whilst it was an okay fridge one of the problems we had with it was the light/switch arrangement (I won't mention the warping lid). It used to, on it's own, start cycling through the lights ... like 1, then 2 then 3 ...all the way to the top (7?) and then back again .... eventually had to have it replaced. Just telling you this in case yours is starting to do the same thing and that's why it was on 7 lights.

Anyway I eventaully sold it to a mate as we needed a bigger one with the 3 kids and he got one of the fridge bags for it and it ran heaps cooler so like 75 Cruiser said .. go out and get yourself the transit bag as they help heaps. The less the fridge has to run to maintain temperature the longer your battery will last and the better in the long run.

Cheers

I have one of the newer CF50's, with the digital display. Set on -2 to -3, the beer is absolutely perfect temperature.... :D
