is there a trick to this, i've undone all the bolts holding it to the bracket and it doesn't look like it'll let me slide it out, as the chassis is in the way... it's on the bottom passenger side of the motor.

mate there is no trick.... that i can thnk of, and yeh it will come out.
you need to take the compressor off the bracket, then take the bracket off seperately.
you also might need to take the adjuster pulley off too.

im quite sure you can get it off both ways...
but its hard to get the bracket off without taking the compressor off.
take the comp off the bracket.
take the idler off, then remove the bracket.

had another shot at it, there is no physical way the compressor body would fit between the bracket and the chassis leaving the compressor free floating in the sideways U shaped bracket... i pulled the bracket with the compressor floating round in there. would love to see pics or something of one being removed or fitted, it just seems like a silly setup if you have to pull the bracket just to get the compressor offScrewy_ScrewBall wrote:im quite sure you can get it off both ways...

take a photo of the setup that you are trying to remove, as there are many different ways that these were put on due to some being factory fitted, some dealer fitted, aftermarket or homebrew job.

Mine was on a TD42, but sounds similar. Mine's a Sanden SD 508. You need to undo the three bolts that bolt into the side of the block. Only one will come all the way out, the other two can't come out, but they unthread from the block. There is also a (smaller from memory) bolt on the front of the mounting bracket that screws into the front of the block.
Then voila, she should be out.
Mine has a 2" body lift, if that makes a difference I don't know.
Undoing the actual compressor from the bracket is a pain and would be difficult to impossible. Theres 4 sets of nuts/bolts and are difficult to get to with the alternator just above the compressor.
I've taken mine off several times and the way detailed above was the easiest way for me.

it had 4 bolts on the compressor bracket... i love a challenge so i took them off first (thinking that there should be a way to slide it off).
then there were 3 bolts into the block, 1 came out easy, the other 2 would have been a pain if the compressor hadn't have been unbolted (gave me some room to manouver).
then there were 2 smaller ones on the front of the block
