Was looking on ebay and found this, personally I wouldn't use it, but was interested to hear what you guys think? Would you use it?

so you're bogged, you then jack your car up, undo all 6 wheel studs, bolt this thing on (all while you're stuck) then winch your car out with all of the load on one corner.
Now if you don't have a diff lock all of the power will go to the wheel with the least resistance (eg the one without a cable attached to it)
Concept, OK, practice crap.
For this to work you would need a diff lock, in which case you would have at least a hand winch if not an electric one.
Well I'm guessing that they didn't think everyone would carry on like a big bunch of sooky girls over it like they have........
Have to say this is partly an old idea I first saw on a tractor 20 years ago that had a winch drum welded to the side of the rear wheel, with cable already wound on, and was threaded thru roller block on the front. Good for RWD only tractors, just hook up the cable and lock the diff and away you go. Modern winches and diff locks etc, on 4wds make this device a bit obsolete.....
Nice gq swb ute chop with a huffer for the good times
This is so, "land rover owners club" I can remember meeting a group of their club members on a trip once and they had so much crap attatched to there trucks (ramps, tools, hub winchs, capstan winch's, ton's of spares and the customary 150 feet of inch and a quarter hemp rope wound around their (masive) bull bars) that they weighed a shit load, and as a consequence they were breaking things all the time and needing to recover themselves all the time, we on the other hand were running fairly comando, basic (but adiquate) recovery and spares and driving all around them, if it were a 2 month trip through the outback I would understand but it was a weekend in the high country.

Cable bracing is the way of the future!

I have used a snatch strap round the spinning tire, to a tree, to get an open diffed Lada out of trouble. (why was I driving a Niva out by myself anyway?) Clutch wasn't happy, but it can work in some situations.
giving the spinning wheel something to do, gave a little power back to the other wheel....almost an lsd
A proper winch be much betterer.

I agree with Peter, droopypete wrote:This is so, "land rover owners club"
The idea is to take as little as possible and what you do carry make sure it fulfills as many purposes as possible. I can not think of a single situation where this would be quicker or more effective than pulling out the winch cable…
The first line of the eBay ad says it all..
"Travelling Solo?"
If you are silly enough to, you have to be silly enough to buy one of those!
seems like a good idea, but the applications would be limited
I was stuck up to my sills, and the only thing that could get me out was 16,000lbs of winching (2 trucks pulling).. bloody quicksand
