Oct 97 was the change over from solid front end to the IFS on all models, they had 3.0L diesel, petrol 2.7L 4cyl & 3.4L V6.

The IFS was standard on the SR5 & extra cab models on the 3rd generation model before that ran from 1988 to 1997 (dumbdance will confirm). The base models had a solid front end. These had the 2.8L diesel, 2.4L petrol. All 4-runners had IFS with 3.0L V6 or 2.8L diesel (very rare)

The IFS was an option for SR5's on the 2nd generation Hiluxs & 4-runners from 1984 - 1988. They had 2.2 or 2.4 diesel's or 2.0 or 2.2L petrols.

All 1st generation hilux's had solid front ends. These had 2.0L petrol or a 2.0L diesel.

All extra cabs from 89 on, and dual cab SR5's from 91/92 on (the dual cab SR5 prior had Solid front).

89 was the first time IFS was released in the Hilux range in oz, the 4 runners in the series before had IFS.

Current generation all came with IFS.
