I run 32" Mongrels. I have an sj410 that had 4:11 diffs standard. I have fitted 4:9 diffs from and lj50, and its great off road, but 4:6 from lj80 may have been better for road use.

hi, considering mines a 4spd. would the engine be working to hard or will the larger tyres compensate for the ratio change enough?

cheers

4:9 means I'm revving harder than standard on road with 32's.
4:6 would be revving like standard with the 32's

I'm about 10% lower than stock gearing would be on stock tyres

no worries! thanx..

just wanted to know roughly what ratio you's re running for the 32" range. so between 4.6 & 5.1 would be fine then?

cheers

yes, but with our type diffs, we have less choices of diff ratios, but are much cheaper to get.. christover

We can only use diffs from LJ zooks. LJ50 or LJ80
Front is direct bolt in, but rear of Sierras are bigger axles, so need to use Sierra side gears, or entire Sierra centre into the LJ Pinion and housing.
Or 1.0 litre housing can be used if more suitable.
A lot of LJ diffs have crown pegs to help stop diffs exploding, too.
I pay between $85 and $110 for LJ diffs, whereas !.3's need 2 front Vitara ratios at 300 - 500 a diff.
1.3 Narrow Track and Wide Track zooks have totally different diffs to our 1.olitre zooks, in size and shape and ratios.

A search will find heaps of info on this conversion, on here and on LJ10.com

I now have a 1.3 engine and 5speed in my SJ410 LWB.

I ran standard 4:11 diffs with 31's for a long time, and it was just ok with the 1.3, and a bit less than ok with the 1.0 litre. It will be ok on road, though you will be going faster than your speedo says, and big hills will kill it.
You will be ok off road until you want to get more serious, then you won't be happy.
I found 30's was the limit with my 1.o litre engine

bed time now
