WA Sunrise Park 4x4 Championship 2006

People seem to be misinterpreting my previous comments. I don't want rules so that I can plan some cunning victory. I don't care who wins. I'm concerned that without rules being available signifcantly _before_ the event, some people may find themselves in situations way above their or their vehicles' abilities, and the bravado of the event may force them into doing things they will regret, or in the extreme case, injure someone.
For those of you with seroiusly modified vehicles, this might not be such an issue (although I would have thought that from a purely safety point of view, it should be mandatory). Fair enough, we should support the local organisers. But this is _not_ really a new event. This is the 3rd gymkhana these organisers have put together, and they inherited it from the Eastern Goldfileds club that had at least 5 or more years experience. Surely _all_ the comments about disorganisation over the last 4 years should have been taken into account this time? There are many experienced organisers over East. There is a book of rules developed by the CCDA. Has not one email, or phonecall asking for advice been made??

Heard a couple of interesting things about the comp magor thing if its true is that the comp isnt timed so that makes it better for every one also there will be some driving spots not just winching hope to see you all there i am going to ring Alan to find out on what day you can arrive and at what time also what you have to bring i no that on Saturday night there will be bomb fires as its the first day that burning of is alowed and they have some large piles to burn so bring your coldies and have a gas bag and bull shit before the comp starts on Sunday
Looking forward to it, Mike & I didnt end up with
much winching practise as we drove most tracks
cos it was so dry. But still as its not timed doesnt
matter. should be good fun, just getting out & doing it.
See you all next fri nite or sat. morn. its 5hr. from
here so not sure when I'll get there!!!!
cheers Jeff
P.S. the Brunswick jn. camp site is gone
trashed to the max!!!!!!

buggy time............
Sorry to put a dampener on everything but was just told that Alan emailed a mate sending him the gate opening time info then sent another email saying that there would be a meeting on the 18th i believe in Bullsbrook about the remaining comps because of the lack of support my guess there gose the rest of the comps good on ya Western Australia once again everyone wants something to happen but wont help out to make it so apart from wingeing and complaining way to go
I recived both thoses emails and the second 1 left me a little confused.
Calling a meeting about the future comps due to lack of intrest when
1) The comp hasnt even been held yet (OZ Rock only had 6 buggys and was a huge sucsess)
2) Its a winch comp, 90% of the 4x4s out there dont have winches so u would expect low numbers.
3) Its the first of 3 comps, there probley are alot of people wanting to see how the first 1 goes and what the tracks are like befor they enter.
I dont think u can expect WAs first winch comp to have people lineing up trying to enter, theses things take time.
I say go with the flow and see what happens, cant give up after/befor the first comp, unless $$ start to come out of your own pocket.

well if there is a meeting on the 18th then i suggest we get as many people as possible to attend to try and keep it going.
Maybe help out more or whatever not sure.
If there was only 6 cars like the rock series then i think the entry fee would be a lot higher per comp as the INS is a killer i doubt alan will be tryin to make money.

If there's not enought help being offered, I would've suggested something like a "friends of Sunrise" certificate, that could be handed out to people who volunteer help at the park, entitling them to either drive the course a few times, or reduced entry fees to the comps or something similar.
If it's done right, there'd be plenty of interest in the comps themselves - just compare the recent response to the W.A. navrun requests.
Cheers,
Gordon

The "giving back" was simply a suggestion if it was ascertained that Alan was considering cancelling the comps due to lack of help. I personally doubt that this would be the case (more likely a perceived lack of competitors). But it is possible that more help could be gained (if required) by offering something in return - most businesses starting off do something like this, especially if they are community based. For those people who may feel less inclined to be as altruistic as you describe, it makes them feel a 'part' of something and is generally good business sense.
As I said however, I doubt this is the reason for considering cancellation

Suppose so Gordon as always most people wont do anthing for nothing as was shown by only a dedicated few who turned up to the busy bees to lend a hand.Oh well guys keep going on about the lack of comps in WA after this all falls apart but please dont come bitching to me ..As for the Nav Run getting up and running it will be good for people and will cater for the more main stream vehicle and family which will make it more populer. But all organised by Eastern States people and probably run by them to wouldnt it be nice for WA to do something for them selves at least this may happen because they dont have to rely on WA wheelers to much and yes I took my big fill of bitchy happy pills this morning just pissed of with the lack of support .I would have thought that more people would be thinking about getting some kind of comp up and running some were as there are plenty of places to go and lots of types of comps that could be run to cater for all types of vehicles.Good on the couple of people that I no that are looking into doing this keep up the good work Paul and hopefully the Moto Maddness in Mangmup will grow into a comp .
Duncan you have made a good point in your last comments.
This sport needs to grow in to the comp, and shouldn't be expected to just form out of thin air. I mean how many decent rigs are in West oz to start with? if 1/3 of them make it you will have like 5 rigs competing at the most.
As for the Nav run stuff, it will be good for other people thinking about organising an event to get first hand knowledge of what needs to be done from the eastern state's. And yes it is for the more main steam cars around... but thats because that is what is around.
As for something in return for help, Gordon after the first busy bee the helpers were asked back to test the tracks over a weekend, so yes their is something for your hard work.

DeWse, Duncan,
Thats great, and exactly what I'm talking about. But if that 'sweetener' had been public information _before_ the busy bees were run, maybe more people would have shown up? Do you think that (as Duncan has indicated) Alan was disappointed by the turn-out at these things, or is it the lack of competitors that is the problem? As for something in return for help, Gordon after the first busy bee the helpers were asked back to test the tracks over a weekend, so yes their is something for your hard work.

Lack of enthusiasim (sp) by everyone I think. From an email sent to Shane, he was saying that it's to hard to do it by himself, and nobody seems to be keen to give a helping hand. Lots of people will talk about it, but nobody is helping with the hard stuff. Like turning up to the busy bee to clear tracks and general stuff.gordon wrote:DeWse, Duncan,

I have been up once (3hrs each way), it's a long trip for me and I know I'm deffinately not competing. (shit I'm making excuses..)

Nope thats the price.gordon wrote:I thought they were both around $300? I know the Sunrise one covers you for 3 events, but IIRC the navrun is a catered event and the cost covers two teams.
So they're pretty much even ... unless the navrun guys have changed their pricing?
At first i was shocked at the $300 bucks for Gymkana, but after finding out it was for three events it seems fair, and I stated that in a post. Navrun provides alot more, and it's organised for only $150 per car.
Dave your just trying to cause shit coz their is interest in the Navrun. Mate don't worry about it, because as already stated by duncan these are two very different events catering for different people. If you don't want to go in the navrun thats okay i'll understand. Hell I'll even give you a comforting cuddle next time I see you I know some of you guys particularly you and dancan are going to be pissed if the comps get canceled.
I would like to see if Alan would be interested in competing in this comp considering he is the one telling other people to try organise an event. I think Navrun will teach the WA organizers alot about comps.
Duncan is that zook for sale still? It looks like I might have to put some money where my mouth is.

They are both still cheap events comparititavely - look at any other state level motorsport event and they're going to cost you closer to $1000 to enter.DeWsE wrote:At first i was shocked at the $300 bucks for Gymkana, but after finding out it was for three events it seems fair, and I stated that in a post. I hardly think Dave was trying to stir shit though? He was just stating a fact about people whinging about the cost of events when they're already cheap. It wasn't a comment directed at the navrun! You'll know when Dave is trying to shit stir
In any case, I'll be there on Sunday to 'spectate' (if I can find the place).
Brett.
i want to go up if i dont go to bindoon dirt drags but i cannot find the times and address. is it a sunday or satday event or both? camping, drinking what the go. if it looks good i would build up me fourby to compete later in the year but as there seem no clear cut rules/classes how can you make a competetive truck apart from going all out?
Congratulations Paul , as for directions drive to Toodjay drive out of town over the bridge for about 8 to 10 kms you will see a large grain silow terminal on your left about another 1 to 2 kms up the road you will come to a left turn which i believe is Bindoon Springs Road its sign posted as a turn of to Bindoon drive about 10 k down this and your turn of is a gravel road on your right hand side this should be sign posted as the turn of to the comp down this track for about 2 k another right hand turn down a gravel track that was some what over grown and your there to easy.Gate opens on Saturday afternoon at 1.00 drivers breifing is at 3.30 i was told that there are going to be bomb fires on Saturday night as its the first day that burning of is alowed there hasnt been anything said about booze not being allowed so im taking some beers dont no what is going to be provided so take everything you need to be sure make sure you have lots of water as it gets very warm up Toodjay way lastly anything you take you will be asked to take home with you that definatly includes all of your rubbish see you guys up there looking forward to it
