Hi,
I am trying to test whether I have LSD or not (dealer didn't know). I jacked up the rear of the truck today on one side only so that 1 tyre was off the ground. Gave it some diesel and the truck started to move forwards coming off the jack... the wheel in the air was spinning and I can only assume that that drive was coming from the wheel on the ground. This is LSD right? or is it a diff lock? ... Also, above the rear diff filler plug there is a small rectangle sign (I can't read it as it is all black and covered with tar)...
Any clues?

yes its a lsd
if it was an open diff the wheel in the air would spin and the car wouldnt move. The correct way is to jack both wheels up, spin one by hand and if the other one spins aswell its an LSD.
if you had a locker (and it was engaged if manual locking) both wheels (the one in the air and one on ground) would spin at same speed and would have launched your vehicle into whatever was infront of it.
the rectangular sign you cant read says (LSD OIL ONLY)

GXL HDJ80 Cruiser - Lifted, Locked, 315's, 3" Zorst, Safari Intercooled, High Flowed Turbo, All the fruit. AMMS tuned coal shovel, Pushing 148rwhp... + heaps of the black sooty goodness...
Another way, look at your manufactures plate under the bonnet, the last digit of your "Axle Code" will either be a "3" or "5" If so your cruiser has a LSD

This is my first cruiser (upgraded from a pajero) and I must say that I love the sahara! its fully comfort with a nice torqey 4.0 TD....
The only downside I can think of is the 24V system... have to get converters for almost everything
