Gearbox work SE Melb/bayside??

Post by ash_on_mtb »

Anyone know a decent place to get a gearbox swapped in SE Melbs/bayside. I've got a 86 4Runner with a shot 5th, and a spare box that is supposedly ok. I need to check the 2nd box, then swap them, but don't have the time nor the mates ;) to help me drop one and slot in the other.

Anyone have suggestions/preferences? Or is it a case of the 'ol phone book? Need it sorted for an easter high country trip, so tick tick tick!

ta.

Have you tried the local mechanics instead of a gearbox specialist... coz its only a swap job.. nothing else getting fixed.. straight forward task

So now you will be making time and effort to do it yourself?

Get the spare box serviced, then put a saturday aside to R&R yourself.

X2 (or is it three???) Highly recommended.

He did the rebuild on the Lux case I'll be using, did a VERY nice job of a twinsick for it, too. (he's taken measurements to be able to replicate it if anyone wants one)

Top guy, happy to show you what needs doing and why, and how he is going to do it. Showed all the bad/old bearings, chased down a special circlip (wrong one originally fitted, would have f**cked the gears if it wasnt changed), excellent attitude and customer service.
