notching a tie rod

Half way through putting full histeer on and I think my tie rod is gunna foul on my pitman arm :cry: Can I notch it out and brace it all up somhow?
Its a wheelbase thing

i wouldnt do it..

they are weak as piss in the first place..
i dont even have any suggestions as to how to brace it if you did do it..
i guess only from the side and bottom..

but the other thing to think about is will the threaded end flex enough before it hits the cup and runs out of travel?

I'm pretty sure it's actually iilegal to cut into or weld steering components as they are usually special steels and heat and stress treated so messin with them would be potentially dangerous.
There are exeptions to the rules though, some components can be 'modified' or repaired but only with an engineers.

Maybe there's another tie rod you can fit from another vehicle that will 'dog leg' around the pitman arm as long as you end up with the same geometry.

It would be pretty hard to adjust a tie rod that has a dog leg in it.
But it is a mute point as Rett has moved on.
