Can I just swap in an applause Engine to my Roza?

Post by drewe »

There seems to be a bunch of cheap Applause's around - can I swap the applause engine (which looks the same) straight into my Roza, still using my radiator, etc?

Anyone?

Just my engine is Cr*p and I am not sure I am ready for the toyo swapout (that is long term - short term I can't be without the car right now for more than a week)

I'd guess that the radiator fitting would be the least of your worries, the hard bit would be can the applause engine mate up to your roza gearbox :?: :? but i'm sure on of the grease monkeys here who have pulled their hatsu's apart and rebuilt em from the ground up can help betterera :D

Doh. Forgot about search

Just did one, seems I can do it if I just change my oil pickup and sump...

The question is, do I want to? Man, such a pain now. Roza is dying (or certainly sounds like it), don't have the time for a massive Toyo conversion, :(((((((

I have heard about people changing over to Applause engines coz theyre so readily available.. They just have a different cam i think so the power is produced a little higher in the rev range.
Im sure someone can help.

I second the last post.. Buy a Rocky!

Applause motor should bolt straight up. HOWEVER, just be sure to check when you buy your new donk that the bolt pattern on your new block is the same as the old one. There is apparently a slightly different pattern on some of the newer Applauses. It should be REALLY easy to spot the difference, can't remember exactly, but it is obvious when you compare the two.

Having said that, the swap is very straightforward and you'll love the extra grunt on the road. Unless you're doing a lot of rockcrawling or really tough offroading, you shouldn't really notice too much difference offroad.

Where are you? I'm sure somebody from this board in your area can recommend a source of good jap-import motors. I got mine for around $8-900 from Ichibahn about 18 months ago while I was still living in Sydney.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

hi. yes you can put a applause motor in your ROZA,it should bolt straight in, all u have to do is use your own bolt on gear eg. injectors, intake and exhaust mainifold, fuel presure reg, etc etc etc....... I know this because i have done this to my ROZA and it all went well. Yes your are right, applause motors are very cheap and common.

Sorry about that Dave after readying my earlier post i thought i was headed more the chardade dematso conversion. But thanks heaps for the info.

Being a 92 model if i buy a similar year model of applause will the bolt pattern be the same ?

I might be able to get a whole car but cant pull it apart to see what bolt pattern it is ?

Is there any other way to check ?

Cheers Nick

Going by the other posts it appears only the later model Applauses weren't compatible? I'm guessing most wreckers / Jap import specialists should be able to tell you?
