GQ cab on mq chassis?
GQ cab on mq chassis?
Is it possible? could you put a GQ leaf cab onto an MQ swb chssis rails and running gear? are the cab mounts/shock mounts in right position? If anyone has done this mod or conversion please let me know
I have done the measurements with a tape.
MQ chassis is actually wider than a GQ chassis by about 10mm so not much....
GQ and MQ bodies are very very similar is size once the panels are removed. the inner guards etc for the shocks etc will all be in places that will be close enough to not cause hassles.
There is negligable difference in the body mounts themselves however.
all that is really needed to do body mount wise is just weld a peice of 3mm plate to the top of all the MQ chassis mounts you intend to use and redrill the mounts about 10mm further out and your pretty right....
You also have large problems with your Gear shifter location on the floor. MQ transfer is on the drivers side, so there for you will have to cut the gq floor out and make up a new panel to put in.... also how far back the shifters sit might pose problems on the heaterbox which is farely is to fix with just oxy acetylene and heat the sticks up and bend them clear a little........
there are other engine bay things you will have to think of, like your clutch and brake masters and your heater hoses etc etc, because you have MQ motor GQ body the hoses will prob have to be changed around...
GQ and MQ radiators are different. mounting is different. you will have to either put a GQ radiator in or mod the front of the car for the MQ one... then you have to worry about radiator hoses.....
if you have aircon, you will have to use the MQ aircon in the dash on the GQ stuff otherwise it wont work....
GQ and MQ speedo cables are different, MQ is a cable, GQ is electronic, so using the GQ dash means you need to change out the sender in the MQ transfer with a GQ one and mod that to suit.....
thats about all i can think of off the top of my head but there will be other little problems as well.......
BUT it can be done and all the stuff above arent huge jobs just takes time.

89 gq dx. bone stock --- for now.
body mounts are in need of minor mods for the front apron, there is abit involved in it for little gain appart from appearance....
id be buying a gq if i wanted the thing to look like one....
may as well upgrade the driveline too
