Longevity of a Prado 3.4 V6 Auto?

Post by turbo4t »

Looking at buying a high k (260) model of the above car. Just wondering what the life expectancy of the motor/tranny would be and if it worth the upfront saving. Obviously it depends on how it was driven and maintained, but looking for ball park figures as i know these late model trannies can be a few thousand if things go wrong and know nothing about the quad cam V6's. Any advice appreciated.

They are known for blowing head gaskets like the old V6 4 runners when they have a few klms on them, would be interesting to see wether they have been done at all on the one your talking about. I would expect the tranny to be wearing pretty thin by 300k, as you said 3/4k for a full rebuild. Just as thirsty as the old V6 4 runner as well. I would expect the motor to do another 200k before needing any thing major, but as you said depends on previous servicing etc. Just my opinion and what I have heard bout the prado's.If you have latest 4wd monthly they did a story on them and what to look for. If you want to send me your email address I will scan for you and forward it on to you for a read. Regards Steve M

Thanks for the reply Steve. I ended up with a 1 yr newer car with half the k's, pretty much spotless for an extra $5K, 4K of which i picked up in accessories, new tyres and working A/C on the one i bought.
