I had installed a Davies Craig 16inch Thermatic Fan on my 2.8diesel with aftermarket turbo as recommended by Davies Craig.
However this did not seem to be up to the job because after doing a full check on the cooling system she was getting hot after bugger all time when under load (eg, up hill) and I put the engine driven fan back on and there is no problem with overheating.
Has anyone succesfully changed their fan over to electric and if so how did they make it work or should I just stick to the engine driven one?

As stupid as this sounds.......... check the orientation of the blades - are they pushing onto the radiator or are they pulling away from it?
It could be and issue with how the blades are physicaly mounted on the centre shaft or it could be the polarity of the wiring is backwards causing it to spinn backwards. Check both.

GU 4.2 TD Garrett BB Hi-flow, M8274 + Bells & Whistles with plenty of fruit still on the list!

The blades had been flipped and polarity reversed.
She was definately pulling air through the radiator.
That was one problem I had thought of with the fan being mounted against the radiator it was only drawing air through that concentrated 16" circle.
Don't know if a manufactured shroud causing the fan to pull through the entire radiator would work. Maybe the fan just can't draw enough air full stop.

Keep the original clutch fan, piss the eletric one off. If required put a new coupling (part that holds the fluid) if you were/are having trouble with heating. Another issue is when you dunk the front end in water this could cause to blow fuse, short circuit, then you will have no cooling until you fix it. Check out the depth and pitch of the original fan compared to a davis craig. Yes the davis graig might advertise that it spins at say 3000rpm when ideling but that means jack shit if the pitch is not as good. I have the 2.8 and can run flat out, stop start, low range 4wd, sitting in trffic all with a/c on and guage does not move over half, if you are still having problems with heating I would suggest to check your thermo stat first then pull out radiator and get professionaly cleaned and make sure you are running the factory toyota coolant the red stuff. You shouldn't have any problems. Regards Steve M
Wasn't having any overheating problems, just tried it for that extra little bit of power out of the 2.8.
I had wired a switch in so I could turn it off before diving into water to save the fuse.
I have given up on the electric fan even though Davies Craig said it should still work.
My mechanic even checked the cooling system and everything is good there.
