Looking to put free wheeling hubs on my 80 also. Have been searching and only found accounts of people putting hilux free wheel hubs on.
Any reason for these over the 80 series part time hubs?
Or just what people had access to?

Cheers,

Ben

Aren't full time CV's after 1995 longer than part time? Would Hilux hubs fit over the longer ones? Just curious.

the marks kit is around the $550 retail for everything you need, must check it out further, was not aware of any CV differences though

I just on the weekend put a part time kit in my 80. I went with the 4wd Systems one outta adelaide and for $500 i got all the gear including front manual locking hubs.

Bit of an interesting tour thru the transfer case as your pulling it all apart but it works well!

I wasnt aware of any CV differences and the kit I got fits all 80 cruisers?? But there might be???

According to the wrecker I bought my hubs from there are two different length cv's and they changed in either 94 or 95 (I will find out when I try to put free wheel hubs on my 94). Apparently the longer ones are required for free wheeling hubs, although this is heresay and I'll find out tomorrow!!

Will also ring Marks tomorrow, but due to a jammed centre diff lock and a need for 4 wheel drive I needed a quick fix for now. Does anyone know if Marks kit includes the centre diff lock switch or do you have to fork out the $100 odd from Toyota?

Just re-read the Marks page, it doesn't include the switch.

you don't need any extra switch's it all works the same except you lock your hubs in now when you press the factory HI 4 button it will actervate the front diff then just pull down on the stick for low 4

Sure was the full time 4WD 95 update got the longer C/V's if used with FWH they stick out the end too far and rub on the aliminium select dail of the ASIN type factory FWH. All factory partime 80 used the shorter C/V like the early 80 . Part time 100's and 78/79 also use the same early 80 short C/V also.

Thanks, Wally, I had thought that was the case. So the reason part time kits supply the locking hubs was because the FWH off a Hilux wouldn't work on the 95+ CVs. It's all coming together now :)

The 4wd systems kit is $499 plus freight comes with free wheeling hubs and spacers if your car is 94 on. Comes with better instructions thank Marks and is just as good a product.

ive taken a series of pics through the swap ,so is it worth writing a report on how to do this... im keen to do it after the weekend if it needs doing.

ps... part time makes the cruiser a CRUISER... its so smooth to drivve now.. no catching up from diff to diff... ill let you know how the fuel econemy goes after lmp this weekend..

cheers

just got the cruiser back in the workshop to do the front hubs..

but they dont fit.. its running sahara diffs so i guess its the 95 onward type...

all that is wrong is the circlip sits about 5mm off the hub face. on the non locking hub when you pull the grease cap off you will see the 5mm spacer(it is part of the hub). ive checked the manuel locking hub will clear the cv and it does..

so on tuesday ive got some 32mm dom tube that is a perfect fit over the cv, im going to machine a 5mm spacer from that for each side...

ill keep you updated.
