How expensive are drawers to get made if you have a frame?

Post by Emo »

I've found this for sale. A bloke has a shelf made for the rear of an 80 series but he he hasn't built any drawers for it. It looks pretty good and the price is decent too but not much use if it will cost me $500 to get some drawers made up and put in. I would imaging you would want to put two in.

Designed to fit Toyota 80 series – as pictured
There is a cavity for a drawer, however the drawer has not been made, although as you can see, the front of the drawer with handle has been made. The wheel arch box on the RHS fits a 20 litre jerry can – tap, pump & jerry can is NOT included. The second picture shows what it looked like during construction, specifically the reinforcing on the RHS to support the fridge.

you can buy draw slides for round $100 for top quality or $40 for ones that will last a while.

You can make the rest yourself.

How much for shelf? $100 would be ok since its only a bit of ply with carpet on it and 2 uprights from the look of it...

I think that you over estimate my ability to make stuff. :D

I've very good at destroying good raw materials and I'm not bad at doing myself damage with power tools but my chances of ending up with a drawer that fits and works as it should and being made by me are pretty slim. Only looking at paying $100 for it.

Where are you? If you're in Vic you are welcome to come have a look at my home-made drawers (with ballbearing slides). Even if you really are a klutz you'd have no trouble copying them.

I wouldn't buy drawer slides as they are not going to be as strong as the ones I made for less $$ anyway.

If you use good quality ply, the sheet will cost on its own around $100, to make something like that would cost you around $500 as if to et built and all of it covered, then add around $250 for a draw to be made and carperted and using top quality slides.

If I end up getting the shelf, I might take you up on that offer. I'm in Melbourne (Bentleigh).
