GU Transfer case removel

Post by GUEEY »

Looking at swapping transfer cases with a member from this sight.
My t/case with rockhoppers for his t/case without.
What is involved in removing a complete transfer case! and refitting.

Regards Grant.

it's not too bad.
drain oils, drop tailshafts, pull handbrake cable through floor, unplug wiring, disconnect shifter linkage, unbolt from gearbox, drop crossmember (support t/case) and then slide it back off the gearbox.
it weighs just over 50kg, so two people makes it a lot easier.

Its good to see Bogged with such useful information again. :finger:

Easier if you remove the center console

Remove both tail shafts
Undo necessary wires and hand brake
Remove all the bolts between the g/box and transfer and they will seperate
No need to drain oils as they are both sealed

It is not a big job and will be easier with 2 people.

Cheers

Hey mate, I've got a 198 GU patrol and I am dropping my transfer case this weekend. I'll take some pics for you and post them on sunday or monday.
