Toyota centres
O.K. - done a search and I know I've seen it somewhere but can't find the post
What do I need to do to get toy diffs into my Rover housings...
I know this has been discussed before but can't find it...even on Pirate
tax refund on the way, so need to start making plans

Hilux diff centres front and rear.
Front diff from 80-100 series and some hilux diffs are high pinion reverse cut, worth fitting to front, helps with drive shaft angles.
Redrill the RR housings to take the Toy centres.
JacMac has the rear axles in stock. $650.00 inc flanges.
Jacmac makes the front axles to order. $550.00
Spindels require boring out 30 thou.
Pinion flanges require drilling to RR bolt pattern along with boring out centre slightly.

Reassmble.

So from which trucks did the 4.875, 5.28, and 5.71 come from, and are they weaker than the higher ratios? just like the 4.7 is weaker than the 3.54 on a rover?

Talk about raising a thread from the dead.
If you were to fit hilux diffs to rover axles and you wanted the 4.1 ratios, then the R&P come from the front of the LC80. What gets done with the rear? Does the front LC80 R&P go straight onto the rear Hilux diff or are they reverse cut or whatever and perhaps not a good call?

I'll be going the 80 front - Hi-Lux rear and getting some custom (from the US) gears for a 4.88 set-up.
Couple of questions if you may:
1. How did you mate the Toy Pinion to the Rover Driveshaft?
2. I keep reading "re-drilling the Rover housing"...but I remember that the Rover 3rd member is the one that has the "holes" in (in Arabic we call ie the "female" side of the joint) and the axle housing having the studs (again, teh "male" side...shows how sexist this society is huh?). Can you please elaborate? any detailed pics would be great as well.
3. Is this is correct list of things (sorry to be tiresome)
a. axles - 30 splines, 1.31" (source: Jac Mac)
b. flanges [is there a Front/Rear difference] (source: Jac Mac)
c. toy Housing [80 front - hi-lux rear] (source: scrap yard)
d. ARB RD23
e. redrilled rear housing [30 thousands to fit rear axles] (source: DIY)
f. redrilled front spindles
Thanks AGAIN in advance.

1. drilled holes in toy pinion flange to match rover pattern
2. you drill the rover axle housing to match toyota pattern...I knocked the studs out and re used them
3. almost.....the rear axles are the jac mac 30 spliners....front you still use the rover axle housing just fit the 80 series diff centre again with jac macs 30 spline to whatever cv you have so....
if you are staying with the rover cv's then only the rear spindles/stub axles need to be machined out to fit axles.....if you are going the longfield cv route then the front spindle/stub axle also need to be machined and a new bush inserted
the rear flanges are custom 30 spline to rover hub pattern
front flanges will remain the same if staying with rover cv's....if toy cv then new flanges required
Landy_man: Thanks a lot for the details.
I will be going with Longfields up front, and 30 splined Jac Macs all over.
Some more details if you don't mind:
1. front and rear flanges to suit Toy CV and rear 30 spline axles are the same? (reason being that I want to ship spare parts as well so eitehr 5 of the same, or 3 of the same x 2)
Mick...Swearing is part of the fun!
Thanks again to all.

Thanks a lot...NOW everything is crystal clear! I've already ordered the RD23s, and will be heading to the scarp yards for the 3rd members. Should be ordering the stuff from Jac Mac by the 15th of the month.
Any pointers you can share over and above the ones you have already...
Thanks

Nadim, we say the same thing
A question re oil levels with the high pinion diff.
Is the filler in the pinion housing, and if not, do people fit a filler plug higher up the diff housing to adequately lube the pinion and bearings, ala Nissan Patrol front diffs which hold something like 5.5 litres of lube ?
