Calmini 6" Combo Lift Kit?
Calmini 6" Combo Lift Kit?
Howdy, I’m currently looking at the option I have when it comes to buying a new car. And with that comes the new possibility to modify this new car :)
Anyways as the topic suggest is there anyone in Sydney that is supplying this lift kit? Anyone knows of a Calmini supplier on the east coast, or knows of anyone that would like to take on this project for how much would it cost. I have done some reading and some people suggest that welding is needed and other say that there is know need. It seems welding is needed if you are to fit the 3inch lift also to the front ball bar (which is something I would want to do, as a ball bar 3 inch’s below the body looks silly)

Quoting CAD$1600 which is roughly the same as what we are but with add'd costs ect it wouldn’t surprise me if it was more.
Has anyone here got a Vitara with this kind of lift kit, what kind of problems do you have. What model car should I be looking at getting to fit a kit like this to? 91-95?
Also what kind of hoops would I need to jump threw to be able to get this street legal in NSW.
Any help would be appreciated.

There is someone importing them in Perth although they have never responded to my emails. Calmini have told me they do not have a distributor in OZ but they can ship direct to you. There are some guys in the UK running this that keep breaking front axles and feel the suspension kit is the cause but there are plenty in the US that seem to think it's fine although some are modifying it to work better.

I'd personally only go the 2.5" Calmini suspension lift if you have to buy Calmini. A lot of people seem to have had issues with front axle breakages due to the 3" Calmini lift. Apparently it puts too much pressure on when the full travel is being used.
If you really want 3" suspension lift at the front then I really think that a Solid Axle is the way to go. If not at least use the still diff from the later GV V6.
Antt got my 30" muddies on with his OME 2" lift and no body lift, and my Kings Springs required 2" suspension and 1" body.
OME will work out cheaper and less likely to break other stuff, but the Calmini should get uyou more height.
If you can go 3" body legally I'd say do that and 2"- 2.5" suspension.

Nope, this was just the Canadian price (as there $ is near on ours) but yeah there is alot of over head when it comes to import tax's ect.
Also from what i have been reading, the front end may need to be replaced/strengthened also. But its not going to be a hardcore rock climber, I’m just looking for some decent ground clearance as the vitara is rather low in it "stock" state.

OME, TJM etc all do kits of various spec. If you want to know my opinion - go the OME if you have big bucks or get your original springs reset by an expert.
2" is the sensible maximum for the front without replacing much of the IFS hardware.
Cheap option is Kings Springs. $200 approx a set (but too stiff off road) and some longer rear shocks out of just about anything with pin and eyelet.
Front struts can cope with more spring height (most of the aftermarket ones are factory length from what I've seen). Rear needs longer shockies even without higher springs - my current ones are 600mm long (approx 6" longer than standard) and I want longer but I have to fiddle with handbrake cables and that first since they're preventing full travel anyway.

Sounds about rightt 31"s without cutting 33"s with. 32"s without too much brutality.
Got some big 31"s (near 32"s) in with 1" body and 2" suspension but lots of metal needed to be moved....
