Steel Rim Strength?

I bought some Steel 15 x 8 King Wheels (Sunraysia Spoke Pattern) from a guy in Sydney who was importing them and selling them pretty cheap about a year ago and im wondering how they compare in strength to my second set of rims which are Australian ROH Trak2 Sunraysias of the same size. Reason for the question is because i want to add beadlocks to the strongest set..

that guy would be me.. they are rated at almost double the load rating of the trak 2's. 600kgs compared to 1oookgs for the kings. 8mm steel used in kings compared to 6 mm for the treks. physically heavier and more solid looking. designed and made in usa to suit the usa big rigs then drilled for out bolt patterns.

I have found Speedy wheels sunraysier style rims to be a bit week. I have bent 2.
My ROH rims I have yet to bend, whether that is because they are better or just luckier I dont know
My next set of rims will be a set of Rockcrawler rims with 2" BS

I've just ordered a set of rims from superior alignments SE QLD. They weld a strengthening ring on the outer and inner beads. I'll tell you how they go after OBC

heh i have bent and dammaged every single rim on my car atm ...

i need to get some strronger ones ever rim is dented bent on the verry verry edge of it were it meets the tyres

Hmmm.. very interesting guys. Viperguy the rims have performed well, other than the chrome rusting; but the load rating being higher may or maynot be related to the strength of the steel especially at the rim edge. I dont doubt that they are rated for higher loads and are thicker but this doesnt necessarily mean stronger material, it could be a better spoke design for example. Knowing the materials yeild strength is probably more critical when it comes to bending rims edges on rocks.

i have roh trak 2s with beadlocks. the beadlocks obviously strengthen the lip so no dints but...

carlton has bent one center previously, and later i bent the centre that he replaced. it happened at bathurst last year on a hard flop.

the good news is, it's easy to repair. replacement centers are easy to find in the wreckers because all the trak 2 centers are similar in diametre. i would prefer reasonably strong centres that are cheap to replace than to have trouble finding a new centre. or being forced to replace an entire beadlocked rim.
