Just fitted a import auto to my HJ61 Import had gear oil and mine was running auto fluid
Question is....
Are the transfer cases different ? are there oil galleries between auto and transfer or are they totally isolated? (obviously I haven't seperated them yet)
AND slightly off topic just want to confirm is there no difference between manual and auto transfers apart from auto has 2.488 low range
Cheers
Scott

HJ60 Transfer case Gear Oil Vs Auto Fluid

Stick with gear oil for your transfer. Autos have a lower viscosity fluid to help lubricate their clutch packs and general operation. If the Transfer was full of auto fluid it is most likely the seal between auto and transfer was gone. When you pull a transfer apart and see the straight cut gears and sizes of these gears you will understand why they need a heavier oil than the finer planetary gears in an auto.
