hilux diff ratios

Post by imbear »

hello, i have just done the v8 conversion in my 94 hilux dualcab, i would like to know if there are any different diff ratios i can put in the diffs, to get they revs down when cruising on the freeway, i think i have 4.8 at the moment and it does about 3000 rpm in 5th on 100km/ph. Can someone please tell me if there are different ratios or other diffs that i can replace them with.
thanks matt

you can get hilux diffs in anything from about 3.7:1 up to 5.7:1, probably the place to start looking would be petrol, 2WD luxes at wreckers. Hiace vans have the same diff but are likely to be fairly low ratios I think. aftermarket gears are available.

you could try larger tyres to get your highway rpm down.

Was the ute petrol , if so would be 4.88 ratio's, i had pertol with these ratios and swapped them with a mate who had turbo 2.8 turning 36 inch tyres, he got has revs up and i got mine down, 4.33 in it at the moiment and is excellent 2350 at 100, wouldnt go any under that gets low on torque.
mind you depends wat tyre size, mine 35's , good luck, look for diesel diffs
gq wagon now a gq ute, straight gas tb42 with a thing on the side that makes it go fast

There is 16 different diffs available arround the world 3.07 through to 6.8
and at some time I have imported every one of them
When people tell you to get diesel diffs be gender specific because 79/83 Hilux diesel have 4.875 84/88 have 4.556 88 on have 4.3 and the Hilux with the 1KZ engine have 3.72
