in the not to distance future, i could be accuriing a suzuki lwb ute, i hate the current tray on this zook and wish to make my own, but my question is, how much smaller can i make the tray?(massive over hang from the chassie) and what is the width of the zook body (i wouldnt want my tray to hang out over the sides)

fair enough but I still think it is a better idea to measure your vehicle and play around with a few ideas rather than commiting to something without the vehicle in front of you. It will be very handy to have the old tray there so you can match mounting positions and dimensions etc.

this is my tray setup on mine. Alao cut the rear chassis overhang off and put in a new rear crossmember. I found with mine that actually needed to add some weight in the back as the original tray was so light that it was hard to generate much traction from the rear wheels. By adding some weight the car was a bit more evenly matched front to back. It also allowed me to put the spare wheel at the back and two jerry cans then all my camping gear for two people
