ive got a 3y motor(2L 4 cyl, carburetted) and it is rattley as all fuck! i've put new oil in it but it wont go away. once i rev it over 1800rpm it goes away, tips, anyone
Wanted.... 4.88 or 4.56 front GQ diff center. Also wanted... GQ rear diff complete.

Some ideas.....

1. engine mounts
2. some cylinders not firing
3. internal damage

if random my guess is timing chain. guide could of shat itself.

yeah the 2y in the 2wd hilux is goin threw the same prob noisey timing chain :bad-words: more work to do

its constant, i've been told it could be the tappets??????

Yes they do have a timing chain, rattle could be that, not that hard to change.
Also if the rattle is at idle and tends to quieten down when the engine is warm it could also be gudgeon pins worn. The big question is how many kilometers has it done and has it had a hard life.
Is the rattle from the top of the motor or front or sound low down.
All these things will determin the problem.
Most likely timing chain. Easiest solution is a brand new motor, under $1200 just shop around from import places.

tappets in em are hydraulic too
myself i had change them it improve a little as a couple were shagged but noise is still there

same siptom as ol hilux noisey at idle noise coming from front
