Here is some pictures of a "Chassis Extension" after having about 800mm removed to start with. I dont have any pictures of how it started out, but basicly it was cut and boxed in with 8mm plate at the cut. Originally it was to have tube from there back, but not any more.
Picture one, showing inside the c-section.
Here is an overall completed shot

Here is a "4 Link Truss" built on a 80 series housing. All plates besides the 4 ears which hold the links are hand cut on school style with an angle grinder

Four link (triangulated in this case) allows much better articulation, also moves only in a vertical plane, unlike panhard rod equpied vehicles, that also move in a horizontal plane, pushing the axle sideways on articulation. Tri 4 link also allows easy tube of rear, as only shock mounts need to be made, no panhard mount etc.

chassis mods like this can only be done if further than 200mm away from a suspension pick up point. thus this will not be engineerable as a chassis modification alone.
looking good mate, why hand cut - not like you!

where did you get that info from, only asking because when i spoke to the engineer about chopping mine he had no problems at all. I was talking about cutting it only about 200mm behind the spring perch??

Looks pretty good buddy
Isnt this your car Anthony?
Maybe you should go see it one day

well then thats ok cause its 200mm away from the suspension pick up point...

you have done well!
I asked the engineer (grahm leslie)when he was over doing an inspection on our lotus 7 replica.

sorry, i probably didnt explain it well. I knew what i was talking about......
once it cut 200mm away from the coils it will have a peice of 100x100 welded in and that will bring the welds to within 100mm of the coiil hat.
you have done well!
I asked the engineer (grahm leslie)when he was over doing an inspection on our lotus 7 replica.
Seems strange, as it puts large loads on the welds joining the spring plates to the axle tube. Large leverage is being applied compared to mounting hte spring plate dirrectly about the axle tube.

if i was to guess looking at that photo id say its because he would have to relocate his lower arm mounts, probably to the underside of the axle.. (the topside of the lower arms would probably hit on the underside of the spring plate upon suspension droop if the arm mounts stayed where they are with the coil mounts above)
Wanted to keep underside of axle free of stuff to get hung up on? And theres probably a reason he couldnt go wider with the lower arms, (chassis width?) instead of having to go under.
Also with leverage of springs on those plates, i think that is why he added the 90 deg returns on either side.
But yes, that was the first thing that came to my mind when i saw them at the back like that too...
