is there a difference between a Middy and a Bundy?

hi,

i just noticed that a few people call the short/mid wheel base cruisers a Middy and some call them a Bundy.

Is there any difference?

also what motors came out in these trucks?

Bundera is basically a short wheelbase cruiser (70's style) that uses all hilux running gear, three link with coils and has spot welded pannels, not bolt on panels ala the 70 series range. Weaker drive train, and gutless engines. The 70 series middys and shortys run a full cruiser drivetrain, with stronger diffs, leaf springs and cruiser motors.

Not all Hilux, the transfer case is a landcruiser split transfer and the diffs whilst being 8" ring gear (hilux style) are offset to the right to accept the landcruiser transfer. Diesel Bundy's have the R150/1 5 spd transmission whilst the petrol RJ's have the sweet but weak G52 5 spd.

The chassis in the FJ/BJ70's is slightly longer than the Bundera's

Layto... Not sure what you are talking about in regards to spot welded panels being different in the bundy's to other 70 series landcruisers, as having owned both and used parts from both have found them to be very much alike. I would appreciate more information however to expand my knowledge base

Body is also different, eg, one piece guards on the front, different bonnet

Plenty of people still call the BJ/FJ 70/73 (leaf sprung) a Bundera - annoying when your scouring the net/trado for one to buy. Whenever someone says Bundy, i always accept that there is some chance they're actually talking about a BJ/FJ.
As has been said, the 'real' bundy (LJ/RJ70) is a different beast all together.
