broken front diff ????

Post by sambo »

Last time i went 4wding i got the front of my car off the ground, when i landed i heard a huge clunk, then when i drive in 4wd i keep getting the same clunking noise. it is not consistant but just happens at random moments. I have a lockrite locker in the front of my HJ60. when i unlock the front left hub, the noise goes away. I pulled the hub and cv out last night and all seems to be fine.

Any ideas on what it could be.

Cheers
Sammy

you may have busted pins in the lockright and its not engeging properly. otherwise it could be a number of things CV, diff, uni joint. you wont really know untill you pull it apart. either way everything is going to have to come apart no matter what it is so you may as well start.

It sounds like you may have broken a tooth or two off the crown wheel – as muppet man states, you won’t really know until you get your hands dirty [or pay someone else too].
