Rangie door not opening

Post by lost_motor »

G'day guys

i'm a newbie to the 4x4 scene and the forum. Recently bought an 84 rangie and trying to get RWC for it. When i got the car the RHS rear door opens, but now i can't get it to open

any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, or even schematics to getting to the internals of the door

Cheers

The handle wont open from the outside ? could be the rods to the catch, pull the door trim off and check if it has come off. Aslo if you update your profile with your location there may be someone local who could assist.

door won't open from both sides. To pull the door sill off, it's just taking the adhesive off and then putting new adhesive on, right? Scared that i might not be able to put the sill back on properly.

I'm confursed, do you mean door trim? If you do hten just pull it of as it has clips that just press back in.

If what usually happens to these has happened, try unlocking with key at the same time as you pull exterior handle, sometimes the little latch overcentre spring breaks, and as you pull the handle, the latch actually locks itself. You need to hold the lock mechanism up while pulling handle, either with inside lock button or key, and it will overide this problem. I'm not sure this would work with the 2 door RR as their latches are quite different. Works with Disco 1 and RR 4 door.
Good luck

I've had a similiar problem after a trip (read stuck in bonnet deep bog) and found that after the door trim was pulled off, the inside of the door cleaned and some CRC it all started working again, thereafter I was able to get inside the door to properly clean and lube.
