I have narrowed it down to a SR5 Hilux 4x4 or Nissan Navara Dual Cab 4x4 the rest are pox IMO.....
Has to be diesel and auto (i am a lazy)
I have driven the Nissan and was very impressed!! Had heaps of go and a nice smooth gbox.... Heaps of features blha blha but how are they off road??
So i am going to Toyota tomorrow to organize a test drive of the hilux but i really don’t like the look of it.
also I can get a bullbar, snorkel fiberglass canopy.. so I can use it on High country trips etc so it has to perform better off road then on road in my book!!
What do you guys think... and why i want to know good and bad points of both... I have read on the forum that the hilux diesels are dying do u guys why????

Chuck em both, they got IFS. U want a landcruiser ute or GU Ute, of which i would pick GU.
had a look at the navara as well.. its built much stronger then the hilux..
has 3000kg towing capacity!! so does the new pathfinder..
pitty cant get them in the 2nd hand market for the 30k mark :(
I drove both the pathfinder and Navara and they were solid as hardly any body roll!!! The Navara is 300kg lighter then the PF so i would figure it would be better on fuel also....

well, in that cas i'd go the navara, much nicer on the eyes, hilux marketed too much like an F50 these days , and dont look as good. NI on specs but go the navara
When i say off road i mean easy to med touring... the HC these days is like a freeway i could drive in my mates x5... well i have seen an x3 and a ml320 out there so yeah it's not tuff stuff just gravel roads with big speed humps and the old steep clumb and river xcrossing
If it's down to the two, i'd say Navara definately
I'm just a little confused though, your work is paying for this thing and you said:

Yet you dismissed the GU Patrol, which imho is the only true 4wd ute still available new in oz, because of size and fuel consumption:

WGAF, work's paying for it, and the fuel!
Go the 'trol!!!

Like i said I already Have 'Real 4x4" this one is 90% road with the odd trip to the HC etc... I dont need / want a 2nd live axle 4x4 for touring.... and it wont fit in my parking space at work anyway either way i need a 4 door car as i have a wife, a large dog and more then 1 mate and IMO i have seen too many dogs thrown from the back of utes so I will NOT put my dog in the tray!!
I've spent a bit of time in the Hilux and its a great truck that is built well. The suspension is stiff though which is great for pounding around, but imho still a bit too stiff.

Yeah i heard that too.... the Nissan was stiff but comfy I'll see how i go morrow when i drive the ota

probably the main reason I have the crew cab....
and the dog lets me know how put out she is with those looks when she has to ride in the tray of the missus' GU instead....
Just got back from Toyota and the auto box is CRAP compared to the nissan it's sluggish over 80kmh and they are HUGE bigger then a Landcruser!! So i guess it's the nissan!!
BTW rrp on the Hilux is a few my k then the nissan with bullbar, snorkel, canopy and dual batt!!
Well my bro has a hilux and whilst he hasnt done any hardcore 4wding, just sand driving and a gravel etc, its a very good ute to ride in. I didnt find it uncomfortable at all (compared to my 60 series its a lounge-chair)
He hasnt had any problems with the tray hitting the cab, but then he hasnt had it on a flex ramp. He hasnt had any problems with it to date and its over 6 months old. Hes got the V6 tho.
