Air con running backwards

Why does my compressor run backwards and make squealing sounds when I switch my car off? It still works well (very cold) though. Car is a N14 Pulsar - SR20 engine.

i would say its the pressure bleeding back through the pump

maybe a check valve in the pump is fubarred (if they have em)

Yeah it shouln't be able to run backwards. Most compressors run a reed valve type set up. Seems as though yours is shagged on the preesure side allowing the pressurised gas back into the compressor. Might be ok, then again the busted valve (presuming thats what it is) could go shag ya compressor and send a nice gravy paste of gas, oil, and metal shavings through the condensor and evaporator!
