GU Patrol suspension (wagon)
GU Patrol suspension (wagon)
Hi All.
Getting new shocks soon and want your ideas.
Looking at getting RANCHO RS9000X 9 way adjustables $800(4) or TUFF DOG 45mm 9 way adjustables $1000-$1100(4).
Which would you guys get??
Also RTC or HD steering damper??
What is the general feeling on caster correction for a 2' lift?? Should I get a 2 degree correction?? Thinking of adding 30mm coil spacers too.
Vehicle is my daily driver to work and my wife drives it a fair bit too, but on weekends play hard in the bush. We are going on a 3 week trip up north QLD in August also so a fair bit of touring in the GU.
PS: 285/75R16 Cooper STT's.

id definetly go the tough dog adjustables. Just for the sheer size of the shock under the weight of the GU compared to the ranchos. That said im sure theres alot of people with rancho's that are quite happy.
I went 2" HD springs, which ended up equalling around a 3" lift because of the stiffness of the springs. Remeber if you want 2 inch springs AND packers, be sure to order the shocks the right length. I also wanted to add 1" packers but the lift ended up at 4" instead of 3" (heavy duty springs) and required panhards etc, so i decided to lose the packers, but now my shocks are to long and springs dislocate upon big flex...
I havent got a steering damper or anything on mine yet. Doesnt really need it...
Generally with castor i think its 1 degree per 1" of lift... So 2" offset bushes for 2" lift? Maybe go 3 deg if you add the 30mm coil spacers.

All the gear, No idea...
personally i wouldnt waste your time with the tough dogs or the ranchos they arent a very strong shock and with the weight of the GU they wont be able to handle it.
And yes i'm talking about the big bore shocks they're crap.
if you want long travel shocks go an 80series toyota length shock for the front and mod up the shock towers or fit OME L-series shock but unless your thinking of running more than 37' no need for anything large than 3 - 4 "
as most 2" lifts will fit 35's
So sum it up i would either go Koni shocks or OME, i've learn the lesson i would rather my GU handle and then have a massive lift.
