Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set
Cut the body lift down to 2", that will be acceptable in most (all?) states. in QLD 2" is approved through QLD transport with an inspection.Nat84 wrote:that sucks![]()
what can i to do??
When the NCOP comes in tyre sizes will not be engineerable anymore, and we will be stuck with 2" over standard(hasnt been engineerable in QLD ever).
Road Ranger
dont have his details handy.. his name is Bill, based in eltham and is torque talk or similar (his name is in the engineer link floating around here and on vicroads website)
He has done ALOT of work (read weeks doing brake tests roll centre tests etc) with the blokes at rangie spares to get their stuff pre-engineered so he's clued up on what it takes to do what to a rover.

from talking to 2 engineers in the Newcastle area, they will do 2" body lift, 35" tyres and a spring lift no trouble, and they are not adopting the NCOP for the foreseeable future. I asked for a price to do the engine swap, 4" coils, 2" body, 35" tyres..... $680
Athol Mullen will cost $300 for the engine swap + $40 for each extra modification.
There is no "I" in Team, but there are 5 in Individual Brilliance
Well i got ripped off. I couldnt get my wheels and tyres engineered due to not having upgraded axles. Engineered my suspensiion and that it basically. Got charged like $800. The guy refuses to touch BL's.RoeDao wrote:from talking to 2 engineers in the Newcastle area, they will do 2" body lift, 35" tyres and a spring lift no trouble, and they are not adopting the NCOP for the foreseeable future. the guy in peakhurst is who i used as well and i live in camden.....
he does pass body lifts as there is one in mine and its on the report
also spring over etc.
i think the lift isnt wats important. they will pass any lift... its a matter of headlight hieght. your not aloud to exceed 1200mm total haedlight height.
so you can have any lift up to 1200mm on your headlights.
and your mud flaps etc need to be within 30cm from the ground.

Not correct Jeff, he will only engineer the lift if it is a sensible lift, and sensible being that he will do about 6" over standard, he told me this when i spoke to him a few timesScrewy_ScrewBall wrote:the guy in peakhurst is who i used as well and i live in camden.....

mine had an 8 inch lift and was just under 1200. he never asked me the amount of lift. only took out his tape measure and checked how high the head lights are off the ground.
im simply going off my own experiance.

You are all in for a big shock with the new laws just passed

Talk Torque.
RR
35 no probs.
2.5 inch b/lift no probs.
sus no probs.
to make life easier and cheaper. maybe.
use LRA body lift kit.
LRA suspension.
all calcs have been done on this set up.

It seems like suspension and tyres are the difficult ones - if I were looking at doing an engine + gearbox swap, plus upgrading some drum brakes to discs, can I work on the assumption (just for starters) that engineering isn't going to be toooo hard for that? Just for a hypothetical project.
This is not legal advice.
It sounds like several of the 4by friendly engineers are still passing some good stuff- John Varetimidis (sic?) Sydney is still passing 35's and sus lifts as long as headlights below 1200mm. Talked to him today, his best guess is we still have the old laws in NSW for a couple of months yet. Typical govt- even when it rushes things still take a year.
It looks ass if the new laws will not be retrospective, so anything passed now will still be good in future- SO PEOPLE GET YOUR JUNK ENGINEERED WHILE YOU CAN!
