Timing Chain on 1995 V6 Vitara

Can anyone tell me how much it may cost to have this replaced. My Vitara is very noisy & I am told this may be the problem

I believe there are actually 4 chains, not one.

It is common for them to make noses, so this prolly is the problem.

Call suzuki and ask what the timing belts are worth. Quote your VIN number when doing so.

when i priced mine up (2.5 v6) it was going to cost about $1000 for chains and gides and i work at klosters which do suzuki

Could be anywhere from $1000 to $1600 depending on how many new parts they want to put in and what they are allowing for labour. It can be done in a day but they tend to allow a day and a half as they need to pull the efi and manifolds etc. to get access. The most common problem is that the No. 1 tensioner has lost the ratchet teeth and is no longer putting tension on the chain. There is an upgraded tensioner that they will fit.

Suzuki did mine for $1300,thats labour and all parts replaced,chain ,guides gaskets the works.Took the best part of a week by the time all the parts arrived.

I'm guessing yours is a 2Ltr ?? it's a common problem with those v-6's

The Problem lies with the timing chain from the crank to the oil pump (there's 4 chains in total!!) the rest have hyd adjusters where the oil pump one is on an ecentric slide bolt tensioner and when the chain streches you've got to re-adjust !! and it's a motor out job (easier)
as both rocker covers, front timing cover and sump have all gotta come off to get to it!! last one i did i just retensioned it and has been good ever since 6months so far.. but depends on km's and chain contition.

Also the 2.5L and the 2.7L v-6's rectified this problem with a hyd lash adjuster on the oil pump chain ensted of the old crap setup..........

Can the 2.0 be retrofitted with the hydraulic adjuster? What sort of km's do you reckon the chains are good for?

not sure if they can be retro fitted ask suzuki australia ... they know about the problem, so they could be able tell you if there was a factory recall on it or if there's an updated setup
