FJ55 - 4.11 gears, 2f motor, 4spd - biggest tyre?

Post by foodie »

Hey guys,

is there a formula to working out the size of rubber you can run on a car - (height)(width)?

Ignoring the clearance/scrub issues.

Car in question
FJ55 - 4.11 gears, 2f motor, 4spd

Must have.
Able to sit @ 110 with a light trailer without your foot to the floor

Good to have.
Able to climb hills @ 110km/hr with a light trailer without loss in speed.

Thanks!

I might be jumping the gun....looking at an FJ55 tomorrow with intent to buy :)

Most fj55's on the net are from the states with 5.7+ V8's.

This one has a reco 2F with extractors that has done roughly 40,000K's - I might do a carby swap on it but thats about it for power options

I currently have an 89 dualcab lux (that will be forsale soon) but would rather piss my money against the wall with something that is unique!

Will your car do 110 with standard diff ratios and a 4 speed? my 78 has standard diff ratio's as far as i am aware and with a 4 spd 100kmh is pushing it :?

yep my 1976 has seen the wrong side of 140 in my young and stupid days.

has dragged one of the "medium" (NFI measurements) cage trailers hired from the servo filled with furnature and crap 300k's, only slowing under 100 for towns. that includes a few reasonable inclines. yep it has standard diff ratios (never heard of anyone swapping ratio's for anything less than a 35 :?)

got it today. Very happy with it.

I think i was doing 100 (wasn't overtaking anyone and noone as overtaking me) with 32's and it was doing it easily, just noisy.

Might have to borrow shorty fortys 33's and do another test.

i think you might find that with 35's and 4.11's it might run away downhill.. but thats just a guess..

how much guard chopping do you want to do on the rear unless you SOA or bodylift it? i doubt theyd fit without either.. 4" lift SUA might give you enough but im sure it'd be tight. can you imagine turning 35's with no p/s? :P

its fun to drive.. a bit of a contrast to my 40 and 3b. good pickup and holds its speed well.. just need to ditch the rear sway and see if its got any flex! :) i doubt you'd notice towing your boat with 33's.. maybe with 35's..

all the 55's i've seen have had rear swaybars

spring lift won't keep your tires off the guards under compression...

You must have been revving the tits off the thing to get to 140
what is the rev limit supposed to be? 5K?

2f's aren't supposed to be taken over 4k according to anyone i've talked with... i've seen over 4 a couple of times (oops)

140 is about 3500rpm with stock gearing.

ive driven a 2f turning 38.5 boggers no probs with 3 inch wheel spacers and lots of lift..... the only problem is that the tranfser kept trying to jump out when taking off hard due to body lift and the extra traction/torque transfer from the huge grip
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown
