hey im looking at running 31" tyres on my sierra with standard diff ratio , i am wondering what gears are gonna work on road? i want the lowest of ratio's for comps/rocks but would like to know how it would be with eg. 31"mtrs and series 3 rockhoppers on the black stuff any help would be greatly appreciated.

sierra's were geared low from da start so putting 28's or 29's helps it out but with 31's, the gearing will be a tad highger than good.a cheap option is a 1litre transfer case might help a little. sumwer around 15% reduction in gears

I think S3 is a little to low for 31's on road. If I'm not wrong HRZ00K ran that setup on his Sierra. I think S1 are what the people use to keep the gearing as close to stock as it can be with 31's.

Fair few people ran s3 with 31's, HRZOOK, RBZOOK. It does rev pretty hard at 100/110, not exactly suited to freeway, but not that bad. I run calmini 5.14:1 gearset, high is same as s3 from memory, and its okay but does rev higher. As for low gearing from stock, not really. Series 1 ratio's were good in high with 31's (till i blew mine up then they sucked ) but low wasnt quite low enough some times.

on the highway it does 4100 @ 100

i run 31 simexs with S3 and isnt too bad on the highway. If it makes it to 100kmh then its usually reving just under 4000rpm but unless real flat the engine doesnt have enough torque to get up to 100. Id personally suggest the calmini 5.14's. 18% reduction in high compared to 22% in S3 which may be just right i think and low range is still good. S1 not low enough

hey just double checking, i can get my hands on a 1.0L transfer case with 4wd switch from hypozook.....i am able to put series 3,calmini or similar gears in this case right? thats wat i have been told. just wanna make sure.thanks for the help.

The 1.0lt transfer cases are geared lowered then the 1.3 therefore the r/c gears aren't required. I'd use the 1.3 if you want to fit gears, as it will be slightly newer, better condition.
Fitting the 1.0 litre case is so you get a 10% reduction in gearing cheaply.
I'd fit the 1.0 case to use as is, while you have the 1.3 case fitted with gearing.
Just my opinion, others may differ

Only if its a 5 speed , Guessing by the fact its a 1L, its most likely a 4 spd. THere was a 1L 5sp on ebay a while ago, though its prob not worth it just check another motor in there (1.3L and 5 spd) if you wanted too pretty easy. Christover has done this conversion. I have been told that the stock 1lt transfer case is 12% lower in gearing than the stock 1.3lt transfer case is this correct??
If that is correct and i got myself a 1.3 case to suit my 1lt sierra with a set of series 4 rockhoppers (which i think are 6.5:1's) in it which is a reduction of 25% in high range does this mean it is actually a reduction of 13% over the stock 1lt case.
I am just trying to work out what my road speed would be after the change of case.
