4.6's will bring your auto with 35's back down to near perfect factory gearing.

4.6s as you can get them genuine, 4.88s are only aftermarket and are not needed for 35s, 4.6s will bring gearing to standard

hi, 4.6's will allow you to run 35's really nicely. your speedo will be accurate and most of all if you use a genuine based gear(s) then your strengh still remains Nissan (strong) and at the end of the day i have a set available like many others... 4.88 aren't all that common because of there weakness history. 4.6's and transfer case gears maybe.. your call

cheers

FOR A 4.2 AUTO THEY CAME OUT 3.9 RATIO, 4.6 WITH 35 WILL CAUSE IMPROPPER GEAR CHANGING, AND YOUR SPEEDO OUT, THE CLOSEST RATIO FOR YOU IS 4.3. THIS WILL BE GOOD FOR YOUR NEEDS

easily rectified! if your happy to run 35's on 4.3s fair enough. for the sake of a couple of extra bits id much rather run 4.6's regardless of 3.9's.
:D

What about GU4.5 Manual? (On 35's)

They are 4.1's I think? Therefore, 4.6's are the go?

the auto's generally come out with 4.1, the 5 speed manuals come out with 3.9's, maybe there is some differences as they rolled them out aswell.

35's and freeway driving dont mix when you have the origional gearing and origional engine , or most any engine actually probably bar a 7.3 litre turbo diesel.
when you put on 35's the torque is in the wrong place, and its not enough to push the vehicle at freeway speeds. it will drive like a pig.

because the 35's look so horney and you love the way it you will accept the way it drives.

Both my GQ Auto's, an '89 and a '93, were 3.9 gears. My mates '90 Manual was a 4.11. All with 4.2 petrols.

thats some weired arse shite

the auto's i have pulled down ( all being SWB's) have been 4.1 and the 5 speeds ( also SWB's) have been 3.9s. I have sold centres from these vehicles as marked also?
I always thought the higer gears made up for the shitty first gear in the auto.

hmmmmmmm,
maybe i am remembering the exact reverse, could be possible!

mine came with 3.9s and the speedo was correct for 31x10.5s, now i have gone 4.6 and the speedo is out by about 2 percent with the 35x11.5 simex and was correct with the 35x12.5 tyres, so i dunno about that. :?: although mine is manual gearbox.

my 4.5 p auto gu has 3.9 gears , off road with the marks gears all is good but on road it struggles to hold top gear ( by struggle i mean not in unless dead flat and no wind) , im going 4.6's soley as it will be in top gear earlier and wont kick down on the slightest hills and will tow better and i dont think it will rev to high on the hwy to be an issue as i would have gain an extra gear
if its worth doing do it intensly , better still do it with MADPASSION

took my GQ for a drive yesterday, and speedo checked it. it is under by 10% with 4.6 and 35" Kelly AWR's. i was sitting on 110 to be doing 100kp/h.

Standard it was 31.5 - 32" and 3.9 gears.

Looks like the factory 4.6's are a good option.

Does anyone have any good experiences with after market 4.88's ?

if you like replacing diff centres every 3rd weekend 4.88 are for you .
the pinon gears are very weak, they tear the teeth off. you are better doing transfer case gears , that way your final drive is left alone(2wd). only low gear lower................
build em tuff, drive em ruff.........
