Hi All
What is the maximum tyre size you can have on a toyota bj40 in Qld for registration purposes? I currently have 33 x 12.5
Thanks

Legal tyre size on a BJ40

I was reading on the dept of Transports website it it says that off road vehicles can have 1.5 times greater than the largest tyre option for that manufacturer.
So does any one know what the largest option for the bj40 was? The regs don't specify models, only states manufacturers. I wonder if that means you could get away with 1.5 times bigger than the largest optional tyre size for any toyota 4x4?

The biggest option in those days was 750/16 = 32 inch.
Qld law is up to 1.5 times in width & no more than 15mm in diameter.
33 inch is not legal. although DOT seem to accept 33 inch as it is so close.
cheers

It all depends on what they actually measure, no 33" tyre is exactly 33", most are smaller. Mine measure 32.4" when new (33x12.5 AT Kuhmo) so it is legal.
So yes, some 33" are legal, some arent, the DOT will measure your tyre if they inspect it, but if your just getting a safety certificate from a garage etc, it will pass no problems.
