wich diff in 3.5l Rangie??

Post by CROver »

Hello guys,

I'm realyy not a rangie expert so I need a short info.I recently buy for cheap a rusty '81 RR 3.5l v8 Auto and this car got 4 discs and smaller rear diff.My friend got also an old rangie but his car have rear salisbury.
Where is the catch?
Maybe it looks like a stupid question but over here RR's are pretty rear.

thanx
cheers

Rangies should have 3.54 diffs in them - the sailsbury is a change out - out of a defender or something else.

The rangies would have 10 splines all the way up to the early 1990s

As Tom said, the Salisbury was only ever fitted to the defender/110. Someone has fitted a 110/defender rear axle to your mate's rangie.

I'd say better to stick to the rover diff in a Range Rover - its much lighter - (less unsprung weight) and gives better ground clearance. Plus its already installed........
The Salisbury diff and axles are stronger but the constant 4WD system shares the loads between front and rear diffs anyway.

depends on what you want to spend, you can convert the centres to toyota diffs but you need custom axles and drive flanges, search on that one here
I am pretty sure someone wrote it up - I will have a look for you in the morning
