Front Mud Flaps
Anybody got any ideas about fixing front mud flaps to the Pootrol? There is bugger all there to fit them to. I'm not sure whether or not i need them to get the vehicle engineered. (which is being done on wednesday)

the back ones are 210mm from the ground..... Athol told me between 230 and 250mm..... i can trim them after it's engineered. I have 6mm rubber which is easy to work with...... i will try to get something jury rigged onto the front to get it passed then remove them i think.

thats what i was told too initially...... but the measurement came straight from the engineer.... so i left a bit of security and made it lower than required. It's easier to trim than extendsudso wrote:I thought they had to be no more than 300mm from the ground

I just made some quick release rear mudflaps for my Cherokee as it has a habit of ripping them off.
Works well but was mostly done to keep it all legal
Anyway, here they are. The bracketry may not look that thick but it's plenty strong enough even if I fold the mudflap back against the body, not that that will happen on the road though.

The mudflap is clamped between two plates with four bolts running through it.

And there is a bracket on the frame with an 'R' clip that gets pulled out to remove the mudflaps.

Cheers
Steve

clever thinking steve
something like that would be great if i had time..... after engineering, i'll trim them back and place hooks up under the back to hook them up out of the way. Tore an OE one off down at the watagans last trip..... don't want to rip one of these off if i can help it.
ABout 10 seconds before i tore off a flap and squashed my zorst.....

all the engineer told me was they had to be the width of the tyre minimum, and between 230 and 250mm from the ground.... i forgot to ask about fronts. I have sussed out a spot to put them... anchoring the brackets will be another problem i need to solve.

did the same with mine.. chain works well as you can shorten it with a cable tie while offroadozy1 wrote:i put front mud flaps on my GQ last week as the engineer was looking at it on friday, u just got a length old conveor belt, and screwed it into the original mud flap holes, with chain at the bottom back to my side step,

One of the joys of living in vic. no pink slips, or blue slip or any other slips.
Once it is roadwortied and registered, you can pretty much get away with anything, as long as you don't attract the boys in blue.
My Patrol has NEVER had rear mudflaps fitted, except the ones it came out with and they lasted as long as it took me to get out the tools.
(few stone chips in the rear quarters thou...)

I drove my jeep around for 3.5 years before i was pulled over by an undercover cop for no rear mudflaps and defected. I've got a 2" lift and 31's and it looks brand new so it's not like i'm driving an unroadworthy monster.currentlyoffline wrote: My Patrol has NEVER had rear mudflaps fitted, except the ones it came out with and they lasted as long as it took me to get out the tools.
