Setting up the rear suspension with cj jeep springs. wondering on what is the best shackle angle to start with as this is a bare chassis at moment and no body so no weight on top. (chassis is also upside down as well). We are moving a set of mounts back approx 2".
Zook is a 93 WT.
Options are:
@ Turn chassis over the right way and set them up as near verticle, so any weight will push the shackles backwards.
@ Flip chassis and move body over to chassis and setup from there?
@ Other ideas??

Nic - why not tack it in place, bolt in springs etc, and load it up with weight to get it right... we set mine around 70 degrees cos the springs were also brand new and would sag out... 55ish degrees is the best angle from what i've gathered so far in all my research, as the shackle rarely goes to 0 degrees (horizontal) cos then its prone to inverting...

Going to b a bolt in mount. (spring mount welded to piece of flat bar and then bolted to the mount where the rear recovery mount and most custom bars mount off.
That was one of my ideas but there is no motor and its a bare chassis at the moment.
How much weight is on the back of a SWB?

fuel tank and fuel - 50kg
rear bar - 20kg
spare tyre - 31 on 7" - 20k
rear diff?
bodywork
toolbox/recovery gear.

if the zuk is 950kg stock... at least 3/4 would be in the front end (which would need to be weighted to get rears right!) so i'd guess around 240kg in the rear end of the zuk?
Diffs wouldnt matter... theyre under the springs and dont count for weight on them... you could build some ramps and drive another zuk on top of the chassis? lol - make a great photo!

Check Bad_Religion_au' post there seems to ba a formula.
You have 2 of the measurements ie the shackles and the spring length. You should be able to work out the third. The Shackle angle should come as a result of all this. Or just tack weld where you think then move if not correct once load is applied.
Between 45* & 60* is good from what I hear.
