Hi chaps.
Looking at the front of the chassis, and there are 2 holes with nuts inside the chassis, but the center to center of the holes is only 35mm.
This dosent match with the recovery hooks ive looked at.
What did you do to fit recovery points on your lux's.
I have some ideas, however I am always willing to learn from others mistakes/ experiences/ successes too.

All Bushranger etc hooks are 35mm centres as are old #J40 series hooks .
The front chassis on a Hilux needs reinforcement to prevent the captive nuts distorting or pulling through the chassis. A 5mm plate either welded to the chassis under the mounting holes, or if that raises legal issues, a 50 x 5mm plate with 3 holes in it the 3rd hole being the factory bolt hole behind the 35mm spaced pair. These 3 holes are not in line so measure twice cut once.

Will make up a plate as you suggested, and get some from a Bushranger supplier.

One more question, the thread type for toyotas captive nuts, is that the same as the bolts that will come with the hooks?
Or do I get them (High tensile ones) from universal fastners, if so what is the thread size/ pitch I will ask for?

If you have a ARB bullbar fitted as I do then you can put recovery hook to this. There are 2 holes pre drilled in the bar just in front of where the hook would mount to your chassis. There are two holes either side of bullbar. I rang ARB as I was concerned of the old theory dont recover from a bull bar but ARB told me that these holes are pre drilled in these spots for that exact reason. Have recovered many times from these points and no damage or distorsion to bar or chassis.
Just an update.
I made up some brackets out of 3mm steel, and drilled the off set holes, and it all fitted up wonderfully, untill I went to tighten the spring shackle nut, and could only get the open ender on the nut.
I could not get enough purchase on the nut to sufficiently tighten it.
