Bit of a follow up on this http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modul ... sc&start=0
Here is some pics of it just sitting together this afternoon. I have to throw the spindles up in the lathe and linish them down a tad so the bearings fit noice. Then saturday is the planned day to weld out
Yes it looks bent, only cause it is just sitting together.

The weak link will be the centre, overall it should be a little stronger than a 35 Spline Dana 60.
Even still there is nothing small about the H260 centre.

OT now, what is the weak link you are trying to fix with this new diff housing? stronger axle tubes? is that centre alot stronger than a factory round one?
Cheers

Big call right here. Personaly i think it wont be much stronger than a Stock H260. Given it wont break axles(neither do 35spline D60s if using decent axles) but you still have a tiny little pinion shaft to deal with. And this is something that a D60 doesnt have to deal with.bubs wrote:overall it should be a little stronger than a 35 Spline Dana 60.
A 9inch would have been a much better starting point for this type of set up.
But at least your having a go at something custom. And it will be a good learning experiance.
Well how strong is a stock H260?RUFF wrote:Big call right here. Personaly i think it wont be much stronger than a Stock H260. Interesting points Tony. I have never seen anyone break anything on a H260, but the weak points I can see are the SF axles and the thin pinion shaft that you mentioned. Bubs has fixed one of these things...RUFF wrote:Big call right here. Personaly i think it wont be much stronger than a Stock H260. So - has anyone broken a H260 and what broke?

Your correct on the pinon shaft, this is the only piece that I believe to be the weak link left.RUFF wrote:Big call right here. Personaly i think it wont be much stronger than a Stock H260. Once its done we'll have to have a drive off against a 35 spline D60 and see who breaks what

Tony picked up the major point for me presonally its learning. For 83lux it is to finaly have a rear axle that will be able to cop the abuse he wants to lash out.FireTruck wrote:Looks like a fun project, but I don't get it... what is the logic behind this build?
Once this rear axle is done it is time to build a 40 spline front

I know of 2 that have failed the pinion breaking on both of them.

Cheers Sam, any info on the tyres and gearing/engine on those rigs?

Only high range too, which makes a BIG difference.turps wrote:The diffs used on that ARMY promo landy ute thing used H260 centers on each axle. And it had some thing like 500hp, and they turn lockers on and off. Only little wheels though.
EDIT:
Forgot to say - great work bubs. Any info on your jig setup to keep it all together while welding?

Cheezy broke one, but he busted a link, the diff rolled up bending both coilovers, binding the uni and busting the pinion out.
D60's bust to, I herd of one busting a couple of weeks ago, think it was some teeth off the ring gear
D60's have weak points too.
