Hi all,
I'm currently running 31' MT/Rs. They had been lasting really well and were a great tyre (other than in mud) but the 2 front tyres are now rooted.
I'm not sure what has happened but one row of the middle lugs has lifted at one edge, creating an un-even tyre surface (the lug has lifted about 3-4mm higher than the surrounding lugs when sited across the tread of the tyre.
It makes the car shake like anything on the highway.
Just wondering if anyone would know what could cause this type of problem? I have had the car in to Rangie Auto late last year who said the front end was all well aligned, but through corners it still sounds like the tyres aren't aligned properly.

The tyres are Goodyear MT/Rs. They are about 2 years old with ~40000k's on em.
It is hard to get a good picture, but you may be able to see what I am talking about from these (sorry there a bit big):

You need to regulary rotate your tyres front to back to reduce scalloping.
If you reverse the direction you can even out some of the uneven wear.
I would say that your alignment is not all that good also. It should be 0-2mm toe out. A wheel balance could help reduce the shaking also.

Had a very similar prob with mine, but the tyre wear was on the outside of the tread, both fronts, some on the rears. Very similar to yours otherwise. Centre diff is locked, warning light might not be on.
A friend's kid played with all the buttons and dials in mine, did notice some slight vibration during the time I drove it (on bitumen) for 500+kms.
It was only when I took it for an alignment that the cause of the tyre wear problem was identified, centre diff locked. Check it out.

Had some similar wear patterns on the front tyres of a Vogue SE witha siezed viscous coupling, same symptom as engaged difflock.
DL has nailed it me thinks.
PS, this RR had driven around the greater hobart district for 3 years like this apparently, the owner being told that the squealing when cornering in carparks was 'normal'! A front swivel overhaul on both sides, a new viscous unit, and reset of all the ABS codes fixed the thing perfectly.
