Shock length

Post by BowTieGQ »

While measuring the shock length for a 3-4" lift on front of GQ, I noticed the 80 series Cruiser shock comes in very close without being specificaly for a lifted one either. 362-625mm. Anyone used one for for front of GQ but made for the 80 series instead? If that all makes sense?

I have rancho's in at the moment (that I would not reccommend)
When I worked out the lengths I was also told that these were the same as an 80 series fitment, for open and closed lengths. You are not on your own there.

It's just that sometimes the "standard" shocks are cheaper than the longer ones for lifts. Just need to do some homework on it. So if I pick the brand I like and get 80 series ones for front, what about rear? I can't find anything close enough for the rear without being lifted ones. So be it I guess.

There should not be that much difference in prices between the different lengths of shocker in the one brand, and shockers are not that expensive.

Unless you are trying to do a lift on the cheap and fit someones unwanted 80 series shocker in the front.......I think Land Rover 110 shocks may be similar in size to a lifted patrol rear, but I can't remember if the mounts are the same.

Usually the Rangie front shocks do for a 3 inch front GQ lift and the Cruiser after market front shocks do a GQ 4 inch front lift.

As for the rear I can sell you some Dobinsons 3 inch lift shocks for the rear for $100 and if the supplier still has them in stock I can get you 4-5 inch lift rear GQ Dobinsons shocks for the same price.

Otherwise Procomps are $125 each.

Ridepro have a 10" front [80] shock,a nd a 12" rear shock to fit patrol bolt on, rear needs a bump stop spacer, but they are good lengths for bigger tyres and 3-6" lift, and are cheap.

Rangie valving is to soft for GQ/gu, but 80 is close.

I ran a set of the Ridepro comp shocks on mine for 6 months before I fitted the Fox triple bypass shocks.

Thanks heaps guys. I did do a few hours searching more after my post and found this eventualy. There seems to be a considerable change between a 3" and 4+" lift. Shocks, panhard rods etc. My rear diff is already 15mm offset, so should I go to 4" and make all the necessary changes since I already need them? I have to buy shocks anyway so maybe get them to suit 4" and change the springs at same time, and go without body lift. Also already have caster bushes in.

Yeah, just go 4" and no body lift. It is what I have and I'm very happy with it. Fits 36s fine with a bit of trimming to the rear guards.
