Does anybody have any pics or info on fitting a second aircon compressor to a 4.2 Diesel GU to use as a compressor. I have all of the tech type stuff (type of compressor, how to set it up eg.) Just no idea where to fit it (I have searched - no GU info)

Andrew,
Not sure if the GU has the same spare space under the injector pump as on my GQ TD42 but I've set up the OBA on mine on the drivers side of the engine underneath the injector pump and used a longer belt for it and the power steering pump. Fabricated two brackets to suspend it off the P/S mounting point and braced back to the engine block. It was a little more fiddly installing it down there, but I thought it was better then trying it sqeeze it in near the alternator and second battery. The hardest job I had was trying to find a compressor that would fit the space without pointing the hose fitting straight at the engine mount, or steering box, or fouling on anything else.

I have some pics from a GU TD42 and a dimensioned drawing lying around somewhere.

I'll try and find it and can probably email it if you like.

From my understanding, you can use a very similar bracket on a GQ, but you have to modify the mounts under the a/c compressor as they mount up slightly differnt.

I have mounted a piston type (can't remember what they are called,getting old.) on the left side, under the alt. I hook up the belt to the alt when i want to use it. I also have 12 volt for those small jobs but when doing all tyres and caravan i use the big one.

does anyone know how much the endless air bought setup costs to buy including all bracketry/belts etc? (couldnt be bothered with the hassle of DIY with all the bits & pieces)

I believe the brackets are $350 plus the compressor.

I recently installed one in a 4.2GUIII using the Sandon 508, the only hassle is the cross member near the radiator requires some alterations. The non intercooled GUs the cross member is not a problem.

I was trying to make some brackets to suit the Sandon 508 last year but other things took priority. I should have some finished in the next 4-6 weeks if anyone is interested.

Very very interested (depending on how difficult it is to setup. Except i have 3.0TD... Is the sanden 508 what's used for the "endless air" compressors? (I didnt want to have to find one from wreckers, drill & tap & lube etc, just buy endless air one with fittings etc)

So if i can do that with one of your brackets without modifying guards/radiator supports etc that would be great!

So what is the total cost Sooty,
I am investigating a full firestone airbag system to go under a 2004 GU, and this might be a better way than an electric compressor...

The brackets are to suit a 4.2 diesel only and are $140.
