80 series gearboxes????

Post by Claws »

Are the H150 and H151 gearboxes interchangeable? The H150 is on the standard diesel and the H151 is on the factory turbo diesel. A mate wants to fit a Factory TD in his standard diesel cruiser and we need to know if we will have to change out the g/box as well.

The input shafts have different spline counts 150 has 21 spline and 151 has 14 spline. There are 3 ways to make it work 1. modify the 1hz flywheel to accept the 1dht 12' clutch ( or fit a 1dht flywheel if you can get hold of one ) or 2. get the clutch plate from a FZJ75 petrol cruiser (14 spline 11' )and use the 1hz pressure plate. It will bolts straight in as everything else is the same. Have done this a few times as to fit a bigger clutch on turboed 1hzs. 3. I have also fitted the 150 input shaft into the 151 box as well so every thing else remains the same.

SO A 1HDT ENGINE COMES WITH THE 151 GEARBOX?
im after a good one and found one out of a 80 the has had the syncros replaced but it has the factory part time t- case. does this mean its the 150? and if so i can split the box and install my input shaft into it.

The ratio of first gear is taller on the 151 compared to the 150, make sure you have the repair manual as the boxes are quite complex and reassembly steps need to be followed.

One other way of fitting a 21 spline H150f to a 1HDT is to use an Isuzu NPR 12" clutch plate and a 1HDT pressure plate. Fits like a dream.

Thanks Wal that was just the info we needed. We can bolt the flywheel, clutch and pressure plate off his old engine onto the 1hdt and the H150 gearbox will bolt straight up.

I should be able to do the same with my 3F 80 which also has the H150 box. I have a 1UZFE Lexus V8 that I will be fitting in the next month or so and I know the H151 bolts straight up to it. I should also be able to bolt my flywheel etc to the 1UZFE and bolt it straight to my H150 box. I like the lower 1st gear of the H150 for off road use.

NO
your 3f flywheel wont fit the 1uzfe, also, different bellhousings, but if you get a 2uzfe flywheel and bell from the current cruiser, it will bolt straight in

Now, the hdt in the 1hz....all that has been said is right....you can also re-machine your 1hz flywheel to accept a 12 inch hdt clutch, and then you can put that izuzu plate in there with the 1hz gearbox....makes for a stronger clutch without having a heavy pedal...otherwise ARB sell a tough clutch for the 1hz that could be used with a 1hz flywheel....i would do either, but the later will give you a harder pedal....
